AISD Consolidation Process

AISD is planning to consolidate campuses as a cost-savings measure, beginning in the 2026 school year. It has not yet been decided which campuses or how many will close.

Zilker PTA has been engaging with AISD and our community throughout this process. We will post all relevant information for Zilker families on this site.

AISD Consolidation Planning Process - Updated 10/5/25
Main AISD consolidation resource site
Process overview:
  • Phase 1 Process Overview: AISD created a data rubric that ranked schools based on a range of factors (which were significantly facilities-focused). Zilker Elementary's score was a 3.25 out of 5 (higher scores are "worse" in this rubric). You can see the scores for all the campuses in the district under "total score" on this page.
  • Phase 2 Process Overview: AISD central office and trustees are now conducting a contextual analysis decide how to consolidate campuses (including closures, boundary changes, policy changes, and other adjustments), taking into account the rubric scores and other factors.
  • AISD Draft Proposal released 10/3: In this proposal, Zilker remains open, receives Becker's full boundary when they close, and loses the boundary east of Lamar previously zoned to Zilker. All students currently at Zilker are grandfathered to remain through 5th grade under this proposal. Find more details in the linked document, with the section including Zilker starting on page 26. The board will review and hear testimony on the proposal on October 9, and will vote on it on November 20.

Zilker Elementary PTA Engagement
- Trustee Lynn Boswell spoke at our PTA meeting on May 16 on several topics, including answering questions about consolidation
- We sent a letter to AISD trustees on July 31 providing suggestions to inform the consolidation rubric.
- We shared a survey with the school community to gather feedback on what the school community valued, in order to inform a future communication with the AISD board. Over 100 families responded.
- We hosted two information sessions for families and one for teachers during the first two weeks of school, sharing the outcomes of Phase 1 and our plans for engaging in Phase 2. We sent a second letter to AISD trustees on September 3 providing ideas for how Zilker Elementary might support the district's consolidation goals by remaining open. These included letters of support from the Zilker Neighborhood Association and Council Members Ryan Alter and Zo Qadri.
- Following AISD information sessions in mid-September, we shared an updated presentation at the September 19 PTA meeting.
- We sent a third letter advocating to keep our full boundary and all transfers at Zilker Elementary on September 25.

Opportunities to Engage
- Pick up a free Zilker Elementary yard sign to display your support. They are available in the front office.
- Attend a Q&A Session with Lynn Boswell on Wednesday, Oct. 8th at 7:45AM in the cafeteria. We will send more communication on this in the coming days, and are going to coordinate a meeting with parents only on Tuesday (time TBD).

  • Look out for additional opportunities via email from the PTA
